"Certified" Pilates Teacher?

It is important for the consumer to know that Pilates teachers can have very diverse training backgrounds.  It is important for the consumer to question the training of their instructors and the studios they attend.  Fitness instructors that take a weekend Pilates course and teach “Pilates” will offer something very different than a comprehensively trained “Pilates Movement Educator” that has been trained for hundreds of hours working with all apparatus and equipment as well as the mat and are trained to work with varying populations.  Consumers will also find a radical difference between many comprehensively trained Pilates instructors based on the school and training they received.  Not all “certifications” are or mean the same thing and unfortunately “certification” has become a misguided and misused word in the industry.
